A renewal of a one-mil tax for the maintenance and upkeep of the St. Landry Parish Jail did not pass Saturday night.
The jail tax renewal failed, receiving only 7,962 votes, or 47.48 percent. An estimated $215,460 per year property tax renewal would have been committed to maintaining and operating the parish jail.
The jail will have to make up the funds from budget cuts elsewhere.
