As Pilates becomes more mainstream, fitness gurus around the world continue to come up with different ways to make it a little more interesting. A perfect example is Body Factory's Lagree fitness class that uses the intimidating Megaformer Black Machines. This workout utilizes slow controlled movements to engage and elongate different muscle groups.
"The slow and controlled movements burn a lot of calories a lot longer than you would in a class where your heart rate would get higher, " Body Factory owner Vince Purpera said.
Body Factory is one of only about 60 studios in the world that is certified in Lagree fitness and one of only a few that features these new machines. Your heart rate will stay low and steady with this workout, but that doesn't mean it isn't working.
"You're kinda rehabbing your joints as you're working out and it's a lot about form. The workout is a lot about breath, as well, so it does have a little bit of that yoga side to it," Purpera said.
The moves you'll do on this machine will tone and lengthen your muscles and give you an extended calorie burn throughout that day. It's a great option to change up your routine whether you're a seasoned Pilates pro or a beginner.
"The cool thing about it is, not like traditional pilates, we go with AND against resistance so it really tricks the body. We call it an "exquisite torture", it's all about lengthening the muscles, protecting our joints as well, while we're working out."
