BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Already considered a gun-friendly state, Louisiana may further loosen restrictions on firearms. Lawmakers are proposing to allow guns at state parks, to expand
agreements that make permits to carry handguns in one state valid in another and to let armed security guns with concealed weapons into church services.
They've also sponsored bills to exempt weapons made and owned in-state from federal restrictions and to make concealed handgun permits last longer.
Lawmakers will consider the ideas in the legislative session that begins Monday. The bills are similar to laws enacted in several other states in recent years, mostly in the South and West.
The trend is attributed in large part to a push by the National Rifle Association, which has boosted efforts to lessen gun restrictions at state levels.
