The Historically Haunted Pensacola Bay Area Beckons Visitors This October

PENSACOLA, Fla. - Tours of storied homes with haunted pasts and ghost hunts at a historic lighthouse are some of the spooky Halloween encounters beckoning visitors to the Pensacola Bay Area this month.

Established in 1559, the Pensacola Bay Area is rich with history that permeates along more than 52 miles of award-winning beaches. A 23-year tradition that continues to entertain and intrigue visitors is the Annual Historic Haunted House Walking Tours. Costumed guides lead and narrate tours at 50 sites along Historic Pensacola Village, where some of the homes are believed to be haunted by suspicious characters.

Tours include the Adults Only Redlight tour of the Pensacola Bay Area's port history along Palafox Street; the Murder and Mayhem tour down Intendencia Street; the Spooky Seville tour of homes around historic Seville Square; and the Trolley of the Doomed. The tour travels by trolley to hunt for the ghosts of the historic North Hill neighborhood.

Tours begin at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 18-19 and 25-26. Walking tours are every 30 minutes and run one hour. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 12 and under. Trolley tours are one hour. Cost is $16 for adults and $8 for children ages 12 and under.

Another historically haunted experience awaits visitors with guided Ghost Hunt tours at the Pensacola Lighthouse. Built in 1859, the lighthouse is rated one of the most haunted in America. Investigators from SyFy Channel's "Ghost Hunters" series once detected paranormal activity at the lighthouse, and paranormal groups from across the world have deemed it a must-see. Visitors brave enough can follow their tracks and hunt for ghosts in the haunted Keeper's Quarters.

The ghost hunt includes a trip up all 177 steps of the lighthouse for stunning nighttime views of Pensacola Pass, three historic forts, the Navy Yard and historic downtown. Tours begin at 6 p.m. on Oct. 18-19, 25-26 and 31.
