What will happen now that Creswell Elementary will close the end of the school year? A special meeting will be held this evening to discuss proposed plans for the failing elementary school. Tonight the board will discuss in detail what happens to the school building at the end of the school year. Along with figuring out where students will attend school in the fall and where teachers will be placed. The board recently voted to shut down failing Creswell Elementary at the end of the school year. St. Landry Parish Superintendent Joseph Cassimere says the board also needs a plan for other failing schools in the district.
"In September had this board voted to close Creswell then, which still would have been a sad day for me but at least we would have had the opportunity to reconstitute the school and remain in possession of the school and everything with it, including it's staff. That's why it's such a sad day for me." said Former Creswell Student Stephanie Francis.
The school will shut down officially on the last day of school, May 24th. It's been a failing school for four consecutive years now. The special meeting is scheduled this afternoon at 4p.m.
