It's Halloween and besides trick-or-treating what's better than a haunted attraction? The Fright Trail is one the largest outdoor attractions in Acadiana, covering 20 acres. We found out how organizers put together such a huge event that captures some of the most unforgettable scares.
Halloween season is just a few short weeks in the fall but to prep for a night of scares at The Fright Trail, it takes all year.
Organizers have worked tirelessly since January ironing out every detail.
"It's unbelievable how much work it takes, new sets, new props, new trails through the woods, new electric, fog, lights, sound, actor training, make up, it's a never ending thing," said Spooky Rich.
Fright Trail owner Deborah Leblanc says this is the scariest attraction in Acadiana hand downs and for those who dare to enter prepare for thrills and maybe a few laughs.
"Some people are having to be escorted out of the middle of the trail because they can't make it through, it's that scary. The ones that come out at the end come out screaming and laughing at the same time, everyone is having a great time," said Leblanc.
While creating the most terrifying experience, the trail is also part of the annual literacy challenge.
This year they're taking a portion of their proceeds and buying e-readers for Lafayette Parish Students.
"We're always changing the trail, part of what we do is to make it bigger, make it better and add the sets and scenes. We have 20 acres of dark forbidden woods, 20 acres of haunted woods. We can do anything and we will," said Rich.
