There will be no garbage or yard waste collection on Thanksgiving day provided by Allied Waste in Lafayette and surrounding parishes. Thursday garbage customers will receive collection on the Friday following Thanksgiving, and Friday customers will receive garbage collection the Saturday following Thanksgiving. The week of Thanksgiving, Monday through Wednesday customers will have garbage service on their regularly scheduled day.
Residents in the city of Lafayette, the city of Carencro, and unincorporated areas of Lafayette Parish will have excess garbage, which is bagged and on the ground near the 96-gallon garbage cart, collected by Allied Waste the first day they are scheduled for garbage collection following Thanksgiving. Regular Thursday customers will have their excess garbage collected the Friday immediately following Thanksgiving, and Friday customers will have their excess garbage collected on the Saturday following Thanksgiving. The week following Thanksgiving, Monday through Wednesday customers will have excess garbage collected.
All garbage must be bagged, and the bag and its contents cannot exceed 35 pounds. Excess garbage placed in garbage cans other than the 96-gallon cart, or in cardboard boxes, will not be collected. Residents are reminded that the collection of excess garbage is intended for garbage generated from holiday celebrations at their homes.
Due to the collection of excess garbage, Allied Waste will not collect yard waste in Lafayette, Carencro, and unincorporated areas of Lafayette Parish from Friday, November 27 through Wednesday, December 2.
The Recycling Foundation will not run their Thursday curbside recycling collection route on Thanksgiving day.
The Lafayette Consolidated Government Compost Facility at 400 Dugas Road will be closed on Thanksgiving day, and the Friday and Saturday following Thanksgiving.
