BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A 22-year-old Zachary man has been extradited to Baton Rouge after he was arrested in Houston on March 5 in the shooting death of a former Southern University football player.

Cpl. L'Jean McKneely tells The Advocate Walter Jerome Fort was transported Tuesday evening and booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on one count each of second-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon.

Authorities in Houston had arrested Fort on March 6 at Texas Southern University, Baton Rouge police have said.

Fort is accused of shooting and killing 24-year-old Silas Roderick Gibbs of Baker as they rode on Interstate 110 on March 3.

It couldn't be determined if Fort has an attorney.
