Lafayette fire investigators arrested Jeremy Stevens, 32, of Texarkana, Texas last night for Arson with Intent to Defraud and Conspiracy to commit Arson with Intent to Defraud with the assistance of Texarkana Police Department and Lafayette Police Department. Mr. Stevens was transported back to Lafayette last night and booked into Lafayette Parish Correctional Center. Mr. Stevens is the step-brother of Mr. Roy Whiteman who was arrested on September 18th for similar charges.

The arrest was the result of a five month investigation into a vehicle fire owned by Roy Whiteman. The vehicle was reported stolen by Whiteman from his residence in Youngsville in March of this year. It was found burnt in a remote area in the parish. Investigators believe Mr. Jeremy Stevens conspired with his step-brother to burn the vehicle in an attempt to defraud the insurance and financial companies.
