Just hours after a concerned fiancee posted a picture of a stolen car to KATC's Facebook page, the same car was involved in a high-speed chase in Lafayette that ended when the alleged stolen vehicle crashed near the corner of West Congress and Le Violon Road.
Lafayette Police say a red, 2002 Toyota Celica was stolen at about 6:45 p.m. from the Shop Rite convenience store on Doucet Road.
Ashley Chauvin posted a picture of the vehicle to KATC's Facebook page shortly after, asking the public to help in locating her fiance's car.
At about 9:20 p.m., officers observed the vehicle in the 300 block of South Pierce Street and initiated a traffic stop. When the driver refused to stop, officers began a pursuit that ended when the vehicle crashed and flipped over near West Congress and Le Violon.
The suspect, who police identified as 43-year-old Vincent Gonzalez of Texas, allegedly fled on foot.
Police say a Lafayette K-9 later apprehended Gonzales and booked him into the Lafayette Parish Jail on charges of unauthorized use of a moveable, resisting an officer and aggravated flight from an officer.
He is being held on a $30,000 bond.
