HOUMA, La. (AP) - Terrebonne Parish officials may shorten the time limit for removing mobile homes from areas not zoned for such structures.

The Courier reports that parish officials are considering a change to the zoning law that would reduce the time a resident has to move an illegally placed structure from 15 days to five.

The idea came after several complaints about a mobile home behind a convenience store in east Houma. Several council members voiced concerns this week about the health and safety of the residents in the area around the unoccupied mobile home, as well as its appearance.

The proposed change to the law will be introduced the council in coming weeks, and then it will move to public hearing before a final vote.
