HOUSTON, Texas - Edgar Lopez and Damian Farinola saw their run at the USTA Houston Futures event come to an end as the pair suffered first round defeats early this week.
"This was a great experience for these guys," head coach Mark Jeffrey said. "Obviously you are never satisfied with a loss, but both Edgar and Damian put themselves in a position to earn a world ranking. Now that they have reached the main draw it will only make them better next time out, and I feel that we are going to see one of guys break through and earn a world ranking very soon."
Lopez battled Alex Blumenberg of Brazil, ranked 701 ATP, in a three-set loss in round one, 3-6, 6-1, 6-1.
"In the beginning it really looked as though Edgar was going to pull out the match," Jeffrey stated. "I'm very proud of the way Edgar came out and competed all week. He is definitely coming home a better player than when he first stepped on the court in Houston."
Farinola came up short in a 6-2, 6-2 decision third seeded Jason Jung, ranked #395 ATP in the world.
"Damian came out and gave it everything he had," Jeffrey added. "The experience he gained this week is invaluable moving forward. To go up against one of the worlds best can only help you."
Louisiana is back in action tomorrow as the squad heads to Tuscaloosa, Ala. for the USTA/ITA Southern Regional Championships from Oct. 10-14.
