MONROE, La. (AP) - State police say two teenagers helped rescue
a man and his son whose car ran into Cheniere Lake.
Fourteen-year-old Chris Smith and 19-year-old Josh McDowel said they wish they could also have helped the man's wife,
who died Saturday night.
Troopers say 28-year-old Jessica Kelley died at the scene but
36-year-old Steven Kelley and his 3-year-old son, Jack, suffered
minor injuries.
Smith says that when he and McDowell saw lights in the water
Saturday night, they thought it was a boat. He says that when they
realized it was headlights, McDowell stopped and jumped in
immediately.
McDowell says that after helping Kelley out, he had to stay
under water for some time to get the boy out of his car seat.
State police say the case remains under investigation.
