Early this morning at approximately 1:30 A.M., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L began investigating a single vehicle serious injury crash on US 190 Business eastbound near I-10 in Slidell. The crash took the life of 19 year old Brandon Taylor Grubbs-Harwell of Pearl River.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta operated by Grubbs-Harwell was traveling eastbound on US 190 Business at a high rate of speed. Grubbs-Harwell passed two eastbound traveling vehicles, veered right, exited the roadway, and struck a utility pole. The Volkswagen continued, overturned, and came to rest in a ditch. During the crash Grubbs-Harwell received serious injuries and was transported to the Interim LSU Hospital LEVEL 1 Trauma Center in New Orleans where he later died.
Speed is considered to be a factor in this crash. Grubbs-Harwell was restrained at the time of the crash and alcohol is not considered to be a factor. A blood sample was collected from Grubbs-Harwell so a toxicological analysis can be performed at the LSP Crime Lab, results are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
