RAYNE, La. (AP) - Authorities say a 16-year-old from Rayne died after apparently losing control of his dirt bike.
The Advertiser reports Acadia Parish sheriff's deputies recovered the body of Jason Blake Petitjean in a bean field Sunday morning about three miles from the teen's home. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Family members reported to investigating deputies that Petitjean left his home Saturday night on an off-road dirt bike, but he never returned home.
Maxine Trahan, a spokeswoman for the sheriff's department, said authorities believe Petitjean failed to see a stop sign at the intersection, left the road and became airborne on his bike before landing in the bean field.
She said the accident happened late Saturday night or in the very early morning hours of Sunday.
