Teachers plan to rally in Baton Rouge tomorrow. They're not happy that Gov. Jindal wants to implement parts of his education reform plan, although a court ruled it's unconstitutional. KATC's Chris Welty is working on details for 5 and 6.
Lafayette Parish Schools Superintendent Dr. Pat Cooper is supporting teachers planning to rally in Baton Rouge tomorrow. He urges teachers take a "professional day" if they plan to take off instead of calling in sick.
Statement from LPSS:
Some teachers will be attending the rally at the Capitol tomorrow in Baton Rouge, but Lafayette Parish Public Schools will operate normally. This decision was made to ensure students would not lose valuable instruction time in the classroom. Dr. Cooper and LPSS support every teacher's right to voice their opinion, and those who wish to attend the rally may use a personal leave day to do so. Substitutes will be in place and students are expected to attend school as usual.
