Tardy potential juror sent to jail

ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) - Jury selection in the murder trial of a Tioga man was behind schedule and was further delayed by the late arrival of a prospective juror who took an extra-long lunch break.
The Town Talk reports potential juror Lamar Hunter had a Tuesday hair appointment he should have skipped. State district Judge Thomas Yeager sentenced Hunter to seven days in jail for contempt of court.
Hunter was among 15 Rapides Parish residents on the first panel of a jury pool in the second-degree murder trial of 53-year-old Joseph Anton Chehardy Jr.
Chehardy faces life in prison if he's found guilty of killing his wife in 2010. He's also on trial on two counts of attempted murder of a police officer.
