HAMSHIRE, Texas (AP) - Interstate 10 in Southeast Texas has been closed after a tanker truck overturned and began leaking a flammable liquid.
A spokesman for the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office says the driver was slightly hurt in the wreck around 7 a.m. Wednesday between Hamshire and Winnie. The area is about 10 miles southwest of Beaumont and 70 miles east of Houston.
Deputy Rod Carroll says the trucker has been transported to a Beaumont hospital.
Carroll says the tanker was hauling ethanol and hazardous materials crews are working to clean up the area.
Carroll told KFDM-TV that a shelter-in-place order has been issued for nearby Hamshire-Fannett High School. Homes and businesses in a two-mile radius have been evacuated, as a precaution.
Traffic has been rerouted.
