SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - Shreveport police say a 23-year-old woman was injured when she swerved to avoid a mattress on Interstate 49 and her SUV ran over a highway barrier and fell about 60 feet to the ground.
The Times reports that Kiara Williams of Shreveport was trapped in her 2000 Ford Explorer about 11 p.m. Sunday, but was extricated by the Shreveport Fire Department.
Meg Willett, a spokeswoman at LSU Hospital in Shreveport, says Williams is in serious condition.
Police say they are working to learn where the mattress came from.
No other vehicles were involved.
