Suspicious suitcase found at Superdome cleared

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A suspicious suitcase left at the Superdome that prompted a shutdown of Poydras Street was found to contain miscellaneous papers.

Officer Garry Flot, a department spokesman, says the unattended roller suitcase was found Wednesday just before 7 p.m. by a security guard patrolling Garage One.

Poydras Street, which runs in front of the facility, was shut down in both directions. The department's bomb squad sent in a robot to check out the suitcase.

By 11:40 p.m., the contents of the suitcase were found to be harmless and police planned to reopen the street.
