A suspicious package at a Lafayette gas station turned out to be a briefcase containing compact discs and other personal items. Lafayette police, fire, and Haz-Mat crews were called to the Chevron at the corner of Johnston Street and Rena Drive at around 9:00 this morning. The briefcase was left sitting next to the car wash. Officials used a robot to open the briefcase to make sure it did not contain explosives. Lafayette police are now investigating to find out whether the briefcase was left with malicious intent or by accident.
