At this hour, Opelousas Police are interviewing a person of interest after a body was dumped in front of Opelousas General Hospital last night. The body is Javar Houston of Houston, Texas. Police are not sure why he was in the Opelousas area. Police are interviewing Harrison Riley, of Arnaudville, in Houston's death. Police got a call around 9 o'clock Sunday night the caller said a body was left at the Opelousas General Hospital South Campus of I49.
Officials say the body was dropped off in front of the main entrance but it's still unclear the exact cause of death.
"Emergency personnel said the individual that dropped the deceased off indicated that this guy had overdosed. It's not often that a person will bring an individual to the hospital who is unresponsive and leave before further information can be obtained. There could possibly be something he or she may be hiding," said Opelousas Chief of Police Perry Gallow.
Police say they're not certain if this death is accidental, but they're not ruling out a possible homicide.
"It's extremely suspicious and again we're just waiting on information from the coroners office of the autopsy that will help us to identify what happened to this particular gentleman," said Gallow.
An autopsy to determine how Javar Houston died is underway and should be complete within 48 hours.
