NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A grand jury has indicted a New Orleans police officer who has been suspended without pay since April.
The panel Thursday formally charged Desmond Pratt in three separate cases involving the alleged sexual abuse of minors.
The first indictment involves the alleged rape of a 15-year-old girl. The allegations led to Pratt's suspension and arrest on April 17. The grand jury indicted Pratt on charges of forcible rape of a minor and sexual battery of a minor in that case.
He also was indicted on a charge of carnal knowledge of a juvenile and a charge of sexual battery of a minor in two other cases.
Pratt joined the department in 1997 and was most recently assigned to the 6th District.
