Suspects allegedly race horse down Opelousas street

Opelousas police are looking for two men seen racing horses in front of a school and hitting a vehicle.

The incident took place Wednesday just after noon in front of South Street Elementary.

Police Chief Perry Gallow says two men were riding down the street and headed towards downtown when one of the horses struck a vehicle. The horse was injured, and the vehicle suffered moderate damage. The driver of the vehicle was not injured.

Gallow says investigators are still searching for leads in this case. If caught, the suspects face animal cruelty and illegal horse riding charges.
