Suspect in Scott bank robbery may be charged in Eunice bank job

The man who was arrested two weeks ago in connection with a Scott bank robbery has been identified as a suspect in an August bank robbery in Eunice.

Charles Fontenot of Opelousas was arrested as a suspect in an Oct. 3 robbery at a Home Bank in Scott on Oct. 7. He is being held in the Lafayette Parish Correction Center.

Eunice Police Chief Ronald Dies said that he believes that Fontenot is also involved in a Basile State Bank robbery that occurred in his jurisdiction in August.

Diea says he expects to get a warrant to charge Fontenot in the Eunice robbery soon.

"It's just a matter of finishing up the work and filing the paperwork for the warrant," says Dies. "We have enough evidence to have a judge issue the warrant."

Dies also says he has the advantage of taking time to make sure his evidence is solid before charging Fontenot in the robbery.

"He is in custody, so we have time to make sure everything is in order," Dies said. "He is not going anywhere soon."

Dies says Fontenot was identified from a photo line-up. He also says he expects charges to be filed soon.
