The suspect in a Tuesday carjacking and a Wednesday bank robbery in Lafayette has been arrested in Mississippi.
Justin Seawright, 31, Lafayette, was taken into custody late last night at a Bay St. Louis motel. U. S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force found him at the Economy Inn on US 90.
Police say Seawright stole a woman's car--a white Mazda Tribute--at gunpoint Tuesday night in the Albertson's parking lot at the corner of Ambassador Caffery and Congress Street.
He is also accused of holding up the Whitney Bank at the corner of Johnston Street and Arnould Boulevard around noon on Wednesday. Boatwright got away with a bag of money, but he dropped the cash and his gun when a dye pack in the bag exploded. Witnesses told police that they saw Boatwright leave the scene in the stolen car.
Lafayette police say Boatwright was in possession of the Mazda Tribute at the time of his arrest.
Seawright is charged with armed robbery. Detectives say they are seeking a warrant on carjacking charges. Seawright remains in the Hancock County Jail in Bay St. Louis awaiting extradition to Lafayette.
