The rural area in Acadia Parish off Highway 13-- near Ebenezer is usually a peaceful community, but resident Nujay Guidry says his safety was compromised when a burglar invaded his home.
He said he didn't wake up during the home invasion, but his wife did. The thief broke in through a side-door during the middle of the night. The suspect used a barbeque pit to smash open the door.
Guidry said his wife, "heard the banging. She thought I was banging cabinets around in the kitchen and then she walked over here and came face to face with the guy."
The suspect inside Guidry's home was 23 year old Austin Jones of Crowley. Jones allegedly stole Guidry's wallet and GPS. Officials say Jones is linked to at least three home invasions and possibly three more in the same area, but he may not have worked alone.
Crowley Police Chief, K.P. Gibson, said " we are not sure that they are involved in the actual work of the burglary, but possibly moving of the property after the burglary."
Guidry said he has learned his lesson.
He said, "I'm not going to keep my wallet in the same place as before-right by the door."
