Suspect booked in Covington home invasion

COVINGTON, La. (AP) - A woman who awoke Tuesday to find an intruder in her bedroom grabbed a shotgun and chased the man from the house, St. Tammany Parish sheriff's deputies say.

Deputies tell WDSU  that Joseph Hall Rogers, 36, was booked on charges of home invasion and resisting an officer.

Investigators say Rogers entered the home in the Covington Country Club subdivision about 1:40 a.m.

The woman told deputies that when he pointed a gun at her, she leaped out of bed and grabbed a shotgun from a closet.

Rogers ran and the woman fired three times, missing with each shot, deputies say.

They said Rogers appeared to be intoxicated when he was found in the neighborhood and was subdued with a stun gun.

It was unclear whether Rogers has an attorney.
