The Louisiana Rice Mill is headed into the consumer market and grocery stores nearby.
The company, founded by Joseph Doré in 1936 has been a leader in Rice production for decades. The brand's stronghold in the marketplace as a leading exporter of rice is well-established. Having such high visibility in both the export market and the industrial market, the Supreme Rice name is already recognizable to many. Several products on the shelves, some from Fortune 500 companies, use Supreme Rice in their products.
Supreme Rice decided to branch into the consumer market as a result of market demand. "It was not a tough decision for us. I see this as the natural progression of the business. The timing is right to bring our rice directly to the consumers. Supreme Rice is well-known and well-respected in the area. Customers wanted to see Supreme Rice on the shelf and we felt it was time to launch a retail brand of products," said CEO Bobby Hanks. Hanks business and finance background is a strong asset to Supreme and he expresses great confidence in the new consumer endeavor. Since acquiring his first mill in 1999, Hanks has overseen the continued growth of Louisiana Rice Mill into the largest rice milling operation in the state of Louisiana which currently employs over 150 people and is ready to serve the market needs of rice farmers statewide. The business plan is to start in the high rice-consuming area of South Louisiana and grow over time.
Supreme Rice is marketing four varieties of rice to consumers including, white long grain, white medium grain, brown long grain and aromatic Louisiana white jasmine rice. Each variety is the highest quality, having been locally grown by Louisiana farmers as the highest quality US rough rice and milled to the highest level of quality control, SQF Level Three. The Jasmine Rice, a favorite among all who taste it is a local creation, was developed locally at the Louisiana State University Ag Center for Rice Research in Crowley. The rice farmers in the area have been quick to move into production of the jasmine and the reception in the consumer market has been very responsive.
Supreme Rice, located in Crowley, Louisiana is a 70 year-old company with a long and successful tradition of rice production for the export and industrial markets. Located in the heart of Southwest Louisiana Rice Region, Louisiana Rice Mill, LLC (LRM) is the premier exporter of US milled rice on the Gulf Coast with convenient access to the ports of Lake Charles, Houston and New Orleans. New to the consumer market, Supreme Rice can already be found on market shelves in areas of South Louisiana and the company has a strategic plan for distribution growth.
