New audits say that two groups that helped host the Super Bowl in New Orleans earlier this year should have held public meetings when they decided how to spend state and local tax dollars.
The Louisiana Legislative Auditor's Office released reports Monday from an outside accounting firm that was hired to audit the books of the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation and the local Super Bowl host committee.
The foundation received $1.3 million in state and local government funds in 2012, while the host committee got $1.1 million from the state, along with other sources of public funds, according to the reports.
Because of that money, the audits say the nonprofit organizations were required under the law to hold open meetings that allowed for public comment about the spending.
