The completion of a waste transfer facility on Sunbeam Lane in Lafayette is now in jeopardy.
City-Parish Council voted to ban any new waste transfer facilities in Lafayette Parish, including the one currently being constructed on Sunbeam Lane.

The ordinance, proposed by Councilman Brandon Shelvin, specifically targets the Sunbeam construction site.
For weeks, residents have protested its location, just feet away from homes.

Tuesday night, council decided to side with the voters- stopping that project... At least for now.

The company developing the facility is RR Company. General Manager, Kevin Ayers would not comment on Tuesday night's vote, however he suggested the developers will be consulting with attorneys this week to discuss any further actions.
Depending on how this plays-out in court, City-Parish President Joey Durel says there's a possibility of a lawsuit ranging in the tens of millions of dollars.
If that is the case, both the city and the parish would be responsible for those damages.
