Acting Up (in Acadiana), the resident professional theatre company at the Acadiana Center for the Arts announces that registration for The Summer Youth Shakespeare Ensemble's eleventh season begins March 1, 2013. The 15-day intensive performing arts camp runs July 7-21 and 25-27, 2013 with performances of THE TEMPEST on July 19, 20, 21, 26 & 27, 2013; all activities take place at the Acadiana Center for the Arts. The young actors take on the roles of monsters, nymphs, and humans stranded on an island filled with magic, mischief, and mayhem. In the end the children, through the characters they play, learn about surviving adversity, loyalty, and forgiveness
Students ages 10-senior in high school study all aspects of the performing arts
with professional faculty members and an extensive support staff. Faculty and staff include Hector LaSala, set design; Danny Devillier, music; Chad Trahan, costume design; Amy Waguespack, acting and directing, and numerous members of Acting Up (in Acadiana). Each day begins with an hour long company class followed by small group workshops where students study in age and experience based groups. Afternoons are spent applying what they have learned in their workshops to their full production of Shakespeare's THE TEMPEST.
Tuition for the camp is $550 and can be paid in installments after a non-refundable deposit is received; some partial scholarships are available. 40 spots are available and the camp fills quickly, so please register now. For more information or to register by mail call (337) 739-4273.
