Acadiana will continue to see a typical summer pattern for the rest of the week into the weekend with the usual heat punctuated by a few cooling afternoon/early evening storms.
Rain chances should be near the 20% range for our Wednesday and then gradually increase later this week into the weekend as high pressure aloft weakens slightly.
July is not only the climatologically favored month for showers and storms in Acadiana, but is also the favored month for most lightning fatalities in the state. This is directly related to more people participating in outdoor activities when summer storms pop-up quickly.
Louisiana averages about 1-2 lightning related fatalities per year.
When showers/storms develop seek safety indoors, or in a vehicle until the storm passes.
