Sulphur woman accused of bruising child with belt

A Sulphur woman is behind bars after being accused of beating and bruising a child.

Darlene Collins is charged with one count of cruelty to a juvenile. She is being held on $10,000 bond.

Calcasieu Parish sheriff's deputies were called to a Sulphur elementary school after the school officials discovered whelps and severe bruises on the child's face, stomach, arms, legs, and back. Deputies say they later learned those marks were created when Collins hit the child with a belt.
