The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office re-arrested Trent A. Dubroc, 24, Sulphur, following a Calcasieu Parish Grand Jury indictment of 2nd degree murder in connection with the Sept. 30 death of a 13-month-old baby.
The charge was upgraded from the original charge of 2nd degree cruelty to a juvenile. His bond has been increased from $1.5 million to $5 million.
On Sept. 28, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office received a complaint from the Department of Children and Family Services in reference to a 13-month-old baby who was brought to a local hospital by his caregiver because the baby was in distress.
After medical tests revealed the baby had a skull fracture, he was immediately transferred to a Baton Rouge hospital where he remained on life support until Sept. 30 when he was removed and pronounced dead.
During the investigation, detectives say they interviewed family members as well as Dubroc, who is the mother's boyfriend. When questioned by detectives, they say Dubroc confirmed on Sept. 28 he removed the baby from the crib and threw the baby across the room out of frustration. He then told investigators he returned the baby to the crib and notified no one.
Dubroc, who was already incarcerated in the Calcasieu Correctional Center on a bench warrant for failure to appear in court on video voyeurism charges, was re-arrested on Sept. 30.
