Sulphur man accused of cruelty to a juvenile

LAKE CHARLES, La. - A 36-year-old Sulphur man is accused of beating juvenile family members with a stick at school.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office Spokesperson Kim Myers says deputies were dispatched to an elementary school after receiving a complaint that a man was abusing a child.

Authorities say Jason N. Nazworth struck a 5-year-old family member, who is a student at the school, on the hands with a wooden stick, causing bruises. Detectives say they also discovered Nazworth struck a 7-year-old family member on the hands with a wooden stick.

Nazworth confirmed the allegations according to authorities. He was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with 2 counts of cruelty to a juvenile and released on a $4,000 bond set by Judge Wilford Carter.

CPSO Detective Cinnamon Salvador is the lead investigator on this case.
