Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office reports that at approximately 1:00 a.m., on December 20, police responded to Carlyss Drive in Sulphur in reference to a hit and run involving a pedestrian.
After speaking the the pedestrian, officials found that he was walking northbound in the 3900 block of Carlyss Drive when he was struck by a car.
Further investigation by officers identified the driver as 40 year-old Sharanda K. Arabie of 3716 Carlyss Drive in Sulphur. Deputies arrived at Arabie's home and discovered marks on the hood, bumper and undercarriage of her car which were consistent with someone being hit by a vehicle. After performing poorly on the standard field sobriety test conducted by deputies, Arabie was then arrested and booked into Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with DWI 2nd, driving under suspension, hit and run, and vehicular negligent injuring.
Judge Kent Savoie set the bond at $8,000.
The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment, suffering two broken legs, a skull fracture, a broken pelvis, and a broken wrist from the accident. He is reportedly still listed in critical condition after being transferred to a Baton Rouge hospital for treatment.
