According to a recent study by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, about 30 percent of Louisiana residents don't exercise. The report found Louisiana, Mississippi and a few other southern states are less likely to be active during their leisure time, compared to those who live in other states.
Statistics show that St. Landry Parish is the most lazy parish in the Acadiana area-almost 35 percent of residents don't take party in any type of exercise.
The least lazy parish is Lafayette-only 26 percent don't exercise.
Health officials recommend getting at least 150 minutes of exercise each week, whether it's in the form of running, walking or dancing.
Registered Dietician, Joe Kidd, said "if you lose 5 to 7 percent of your body weight--that's ten pounds on a 200 pound person--it reduces your chances of getting type 2 diabetes by 60 percent."
