Students can win over $6,000 in competition

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - On Thursday, the Scholastic Writing Awards will begin accepting works from students in grades seven through 12 for their writing competition.
The contest is open to students in 22 parishes. Top winners receive more than $6,000 in prizes.
Writing categories include poetry, short story, science fiction, dramatic script, humor, journalism, personal memoir/essay, and senior portfolio. Students can register and learn more about the Awards program at www.artandwriting.org
The Scholastic Writing Awards for Southeast Louisiana Writing Region will cover all submission fees.
