A 5 year-old girl in Jeff Davis Parish headed back to school today after missing class last Friday, and boy did she hand her teacher one doozy of an excuse.
The Poullard family, from Hathaway, was invited to the White House as part of the Wounded Warrior Project.
Major Yolanda Poullard just ended her tour in Afghanistan last year.
She was injured while overseas, and remains in Washington D.C. recovering.
But it was a photo of Yolanda's daughter Alanah that's got the nation's attention.
The photo shows President Obama writing the Hathaway student a school excuse.
When Alanah Poullard arrived at Hathaway High School Monday morning, she had an announcement to make.
"We had her get on the microphone and talk to all of the student body about her experiences in Washington D.C. and how she met the President", says Principal Mona Miller.
Alanah was surrounded by excited classmates and friends as she handed in her excuse, with one important instruction from the Commander in Chief.
"Don't give the one that he had to your teacher. Make a copy of it", says Alanah.
Jennifer Howell, Alanah's kindergarten teacher, says, "I DIDN'T keep the excuse. I asked her for it because I knew that I was supposed to, but they had already made a photocopy of the original."
Hathaway High is a Pre-K through 12th grade school, which means Alanah still has a long way until graduation.
And while Principal Mona Miller says Alanah's proudest moment is yet to come, "Handing children their diploma so that they can go on and do whatever they want to do. To be what they can be", Alanah says next time she meets a president, she might ask for something else.
"I want a dog and a swimming pool", says Alanah.
Whether she gets that dog and swimming pool we'll have to wait and see.
But Alanah is thankful to her dad and mom for giving her the chance of a lifetime, saying to them, "I love you".
