HAMSHIRE, Texas (AP) - A stretch of Interstate 10 in southeast Texas could be closed until late Tuesday after a wreck caused a tanker truck to spill a hazardous chemical and left the driver hurt.

Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Tela Mange on Monday said I-10 near Hamshire, about 65 miles east of
Houston could be shut another 24 to 36 hours.

Some homes were evacuated, as a precaution, after the accident early Sunday in which the truck overturned in a collision with a pickup.

DPS Trooper Stephanie Davis says the wreck caused the release of the flammable and corrosive chemical isobutane. Davis says the tanker truck driver, 30-year-old Branden Swiney of Orange, suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Davis says the chemical was being transferred Monday to another tanker.
