TEXARKANA, Ark. (AP) - A scattering of strong to severe thunderstorms is possible Monday from the Arklatex to the southern Mississippi River Valley as a cold front enters the region, according to the Storm Prediction Center.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected to increase during the day in an area from northeastern Texas to west-central Mississippi, including southern Arkansas and northern Louisiana.

The main severe threat is expected to begin after 6 p.m.

Supercells could mainly generate hail and damaging winds, but an isolated tornado is possible. The storm system should weaken after late evening.

The Storm Prediction Center, in Norman, Okla., rates the threat of severe weather as a "slight risk."
