Expect plenty of clouds and spring-like temperatures across Acadiana this weekend...and some spring storms will also be likely during the mid-point of the weekend, meaning Saturday night.
A developing storm system along the Red River Valley of Texas & Oklahoma Saturday will advance eastward and then northeastward Sunday dragging a cool front and possible a line of thunderstorms through the area Saturday night.
Look for mostly cloudy skies, but with a few intervals of sun Saturday, with highs approaching the mid-70s. A few scattered showers will be possible, along with an isolated thunderstorm, mainly during the afternoon/early evening hours.
More widespread showers and storms will become likely Saturday night with a few isolated storms that might be quite strong, possibly severe.
The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has much of Southeast Texas hatched in for a slight risk of severe storms mainly Saturday afternoon/evening...with these storms heading our way into the night time hours.
Although the SPC does not have our area/region under a slight risk, cooling conditions aloft could enhance instability Saturday night possibly allowing for a few storms to produce hail and perhaps isolated pockets of damaging winds.
Prime-time for strongest storms looks to be after 10pm Saturday through 4-5am Sunday.
Rain totals this weekend will vary quite a bit, but generally 1/2-1.5" will be possible with highest totals to the south and east of Acadiana proper.
Lingering showers will be possible Sunday, but a weak area of subsidence aloft (sinking air following the low pressure system) may allow for a few intervals of sun for the afternoon.
Temperatures will be a little tricky Sunday with highs likely ranging in the 60s to the 70s.
Sharply cooler temperatures along with lingering clouds and very slight rain chances are expected Monday with daytime temperatures likely holding in the 50s.
And after a chilly start Tuesday morning, the rest of next week looks rather nice and spring-like with a weak system possibly bringing a few brief isolated showers Wednesday.
