The Thursday forecast has been looming for almost a week now, and as advertised we will be in for some active weather. The showers will arrive by mid-morning and the storms will really start to pick up close to lunch time.
There is the potential that some of these storms will be severe, so you can expect us to be rather busy in the weather lab. The main threat from these storms is going to be strong winds, but you can't rule out an isolated tornado and there may even be some hail associated with a few of the storms. There is a good chance many of us will be under a tornado watch for most of the afternoon Thursday.
Although Lafayette will certainly see the showers and storms the best chance for tornadoes will be to the parishes just to our north; around the same region that produced the Hattiesburg tornado a few weeks ago.
Showers remain the focus of the forecast all through Friday and Acadiana could see a couple inches of new rain by the end of the week. Quick look at the weekend keeps the chance for a few showers but the models have been flip flopping their output a lot, so we will have better details as the week draws to an end.
Keep an eye to the sky Thursday and if the weather does start to take a turn for the worst please stay safe.
