Stolen Dog Euthanized After Injured in Dog Fight

After Boz was found, he was taken to the Lafayette Parish Animal Shelter where he was put down. The dog's family is still trying to find who stole their dog, and if they had anything to do with its injuries. Jamie Arthur received word from police that his dog was picked up and euthanized by the shelter. The call coming only hours after he dropped off information about his missing dog.

"Basically, the way he (the police) made it sound it was a dog fight between loose dogs, kind of like dogs in the neighborhood, over a female that was in season," Arthur said.

Animal control responded to the call in the Martin Street area and that's where they found the 10 year-old black lab badly injured from a dog fight.

"When the officers got there, they realized it was a very serious occurrence. What occurred out there I can't comment on up to an extent, but there were a number of animals and a number of people were out there but they were all cooperative," Supervisor of the Lafayette Animal Shelter Virginia Lee said.

Lafayette Police are investigating. They're trying to obtain surveillance video from near the hotel the night Boz was stolen. The Arthur's have already viewed the video.

"I'm pretty sure the guy who took my dog is the guy on the video, or at least the guy that let him out," Jamie Arthur said.

The big unanswered question is if whoever stole Boz set him loose, or was he stolen to be used as bait in a dog fight.
