STM Defeats Northside In 4A Showdown

MONROE, La. (AP) - Behind senior Matt Roberts' 15 points, St. Thomas More defeated Northside 51-43 in the LHSAA Class 4A boys championship game Friday night.

Trey Touchet also scored 15 points for the Cougars (33-4), who captured their first state title since 1986.

Northside (27-6) was led by Gerard Andrus, who finished with 17 points.

In the third game of the season between the district rivals, St. Thomas More took the lead coming out of halftime on back-to-back buckets by Roberts and Touchet, which gave the Cougars a 21-18 advantage, a lead they never relinquished.

Northside got as close as 31-28 near the end of the third quarter, but the Cougars answered with a 6-0 run to extend the advantage to 37-28 at the start of the final quarter to all but put the game out of reach.
