A Lafayette real estate developer and former doctor has been indicted on simple battery charges. A grand jury returned a true bill Thursday against Glenn Stewart. He is accused of hitting and knocking out Erin Fitzgerald this past Mardi Gras after she attempted to remove a banner from Stewart's float. The banner referred to Fitzgerald's step-mother, Cherry Fisher May, and her 2010 DUI arrest.
Stewart's attorney, Lewis Unglesby, says his client will contest the charge. "It is just unfortunate that this situation was pushed this far," Unglesby said.
