Stevens Johnson Syndrome Awareness Walk will be held August 24 at Scott Park.
Governor Bobby Jindal proclaimed August 2013 as Stevens Johnson Syndrome Awareness month. It was done on behalf of The LaCombe family's request. Paige LaCombe, who is an eight year old Lafayette resident, was diagnosed with SJS in March 2013. Paige still battles the effects of SJS daily. It is now the mission of family and friends to raise public awareness of SJS by educating about the early symptoms and getting the prompt medical attention needed.
