The beloved bulldog that served as a mascot for the David Thibodaux STEM Academy died Saturday.
STEM Academy Principal Jeff Debetaz said Tank was donated by a STEM Academy parent and attended every school function. The 2-year-old mascot was a part of the school's positive behavior program and also was used to help students with special needs.
The school held a memorial for tank on Monday, at which students planted a tree in his honor and did a balloon launch, Debetaz said. The school had resources on hand for students who were upset.
"It was good to hear them share memories of what the dog brought for them," Debataz said. "I could hear him walking up to my office every morning to get his dog biscuit. It was a tragedy, but we sure had a lot of blessings with Tank. We now say Tank you instead of thank you. He taught us a lot."
