NEW ORLEANS (AP) Embattled GOP chairman Michael Steele is seeking to quell the furor over his management of the Republican National Committee.
He is acknowledging mistakes and vowing to learn from them and he says he wants to move on.
Steele drew a standing ovation at the Southern Republican Leadership Conference Saturday.
It was his first public appearance since the disclosure of questionable spending resulted in top aides cutting ties with him and North Carolina's state party chief calling for the national chairman's resignation.
